Reno's Local Scene

Local Events Calendar

Check out the Events Calendar for local culture happening around us every day.

If you know of an event that you would like to see listed on the Events Calendar, let us know! We can post reoccurring events, like club gatherings, or single events like concert tour dates. Let the world know what's in the works for our local scene.

Local Businesses & Services

We have a list of LGBTQ owned and LGBTQ friendly businesses and services in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, northern Nevada and eastern California. We believe it's a good thing to appreciate gay owned businesses, and to support those that supports us. Of course, in these strange politicized times, we believe it is especially good to invest in supportive enterprises. We hope you will too.

Bars, Night Clubs & Restaurants

For a city the size of Reno, there is a surprising number of Gay and Lesbian bars, night clubs, coffee houses, restaurants and cafes. It's a very fun town! We have a list of all the local bars and clubs with detailed descriptions, locations and maps, hours of operation, wild contests and special events...

The Fine Arts

Reno is the home of famed Nevada Opera, offering several performances a year. If you've never been to the opera, you have a world class opportunity right here in your own home town. If you've been an opera fan since birth, you, too, never need to leave town. There are also several excellent thespian venues and state of the art museums and galleries. And don't forget Artown!

Interests & Identities

From cowboys to medieval courts to the naked outdoors, Reno has an organization or club that will match just about any interest you might have. And since our communities keep growing here in northern Nevada, the societies keep expanding as well. We have a growing list. Check it out and let us know if you belong to a group that isn't listed.

Politics & Spirituality

Contrary to what the loud obnoxious noise of the propaganda machine keeps screaming, even Stonewall Democrats have been known to attend church services regularly. We have a list to match your political proclivities as well as a directory of places where people gather to contemplate and celebration the diversity of life on earth.

Fitness & Sports

Reno's High Sierra Rodeo Association is a charter member of the International Gay Rodeo Association (IGRA), but perhaps you don't know that the very idea of 'gay rodeo' actually originated in Reno in 1975. Now there are over thirty member associations in the United States and Canada. And if you love to hike, you'll be happy to know that Reno is a major trailhead to the mighty Sierra on one side and the Great Basin on another.

Faculty & Students

University of Nevada's campus in Reno has the feel of old ivy league. In October 1998, there was a Queer Theory conference sponsored by the Philosophy Department at UNR. I gave a paper at that conference entitled "Queer Identity Within an Ecological Perspective" or something to that effect. I remember thinking that UNR would be a great place to study and Reno would be a great place for college life.
