The
Queer Caucus of the Society for Cinema Studies is committed
to conceptualizing and analyzing the representation of gay
male sexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, and transgender
experience in moving-image culture. The Caucus engages issues
of queer representation in relation to problematics of gender,
sexuality, race, nationality, ethnicity, and class in social,
historical, political, economic, philosophical, and aesthetic
terms. In so doing, the Caucus provides an interdisciplinary
forum for the scholarly critique of heterosexism and homophobia
as these continue to dominate and perpetuate within moving-image
theory, criticism, and culture. The Caucus is dedicated
to the eradication of these oppressive and exploitative
discourses in the academy and society at large.
